A Market Growing and Transforming at the Same Time

Saudi Arabia's new vehicle market recorded a strong performance in the first half of 2026, with sales exceeding 410,000 units and year-on-year growth of 6.2%. This figure cements the Saudi market as the largest and most dynamic in the Middle East. However, the headline numbers conceal a deeper shift that is redrawing the competitive map built over 30 years: Chinese brands have become a force impossible to ignore.
For the first time in Saudi market history, four Chinese brands occupy positions six, eight, nine, and ten in the Top 10 ranking, collectively holding a combined market share of 13.4% — a figure that would have seemed unthinkable less than a decade ago.

Over 70% of Saudi buyers now express confidence in Chinese brands — compared to less than 30% five years ago.
Key Trends Revealed by H1 2026
1. Hybrids on the Rise
Saudi buyers are paying growing attention to hybrid vehicles, especially as awareness of long-term fuel costs increases. Toyota benefits more than any other brand from this trend, backed by its extensive hybrid lineup — RAV4 Hybrid, Corolla Hybrid, and Camry Hybrid.
2. EVs Growing from a Small Base
Electric vehicle sales are rising by more than 33% year-on-year, though their market share remains at around 3%. Lucid and Lexus lead this segment, while Saudi national brand Ceer prepares for its market entry backed by Vision 2030.
3. SUVs Dominate Demand
More than 60% of H1 sales came from SUV and crossover segments. This largely explains why Chinese brands have grown so quickly: they predominantly offer feature-rich SUVs at competitive prices.
4. Digital Shopping Is Reshaping the Purchase Journey
Digital platforms have become the first stop for most Saudi car buyers. Price comparisons, spec reviews, and initial reservations now happen online before setting foot in a showroom — putting pressure on dealers to offer a seamless digital experience.

Outlook: What Awaits the Market in H2?
As the market enters the second half of 2026, three scenarios are taking shape:
• Accelerating demand: improved economic conditions + 2027 model year launches + year-end offers could push total sales toward 820,000 units for full-year 2026
• Continued Chinese expansion: MG, Haval, Jetour, and Changan are set to launch new models in H2, making it likely their combined share will exceed 15% by year-end
• Fiercer competition in hybrids: with the Kia K4 Hybrid, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, and new Chinese hybrid models launching, the segment will see intense pricing battles
