BYD Unveils Yangwang Altior: An Ultra-Luxury Sedan Aiming at Rolls-Royce and Maybach

A Distinctive Luxury Design
The Altior measures 5,600 mm long, 2,030 mm wide and 1,590 mm high, with a 3,500 mm wheelbase. Its bold front grille incorporates 137 gem-cut elements, complemented by a 24-carat gold badge in oracle-bone script and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. The front doors open up to 80 degrees, while the rear-hinged coach doors open up to 90 degrees, with door-integrated umbrellas. The design, developed over three years, draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese bronze ding cauldron.
Cabin and Comfort
The launch configuration offers four individual seats, with zero-gravity rear chairs featuring massage, leg rests and champagne-glass holders. Rear legroom is quoted at 1,209 mm. Highlights include a fold-down 21.4-inch overhead screen, front and rear refrigerators (the 5.5-litre rear unit supports both cooling and heating), and a 39-speaker Dynaudio system with rising and rotating tweeters. A one-touch relaxation mode coordinates seat position, blinds, lighting and massage. Boot capacity is 532 litres. A five-seat variant is expected to follow.
Powertrain and Technology
The car uses BYD’s e⁴ four-motor architecture, independently controlling torque at each wheel more than 100 times per second. This enables signature capabilities including tank-turn, emergency flotation, and stability after a high-speed tyre blowout. It is paired with next-generation DiSus/Yunnian active body control that reads the road ahead. BYD has cited a range exceeding 1,000 km under China’s CLTC test cycle using second-generation Blade battery technology on a 1,000V architecture with Flash Charging. Final horsepower, battery-capacity and acceleration figures remain undisclosed.
Pricing and Launch Status
A Shanhe Dingyun limited edition has entered Chinese pre-orders with a reported indicative price of RMB 2.08 million and a RMB 300,000 deposit. Deliveries are targeted for Q2 2027. Multiple sources indicate the edition is limited to 399 units worldwide. No confirmed Saudi-market launch date, local warranty or Saudi retail price is available at publication.
Why It Matters
The Altior demonstrates BYD’s ambitions well beyond mass-market electric vehicles, using Yangwang as its halo brand to target the ultra-luxury segment. The Abu Dhabi premiere — where Yangwang is already present via Al-Futtaim and the U8 serves with Dubai Police — strengthens the case for a potential GCC rollout. In Saudi Arabia, local distribution, verified specifications, charging infrastructure and aftersales support will ultimately determine how it compares with long-established luxury marques.
